Everyone knows of the 6th June landings but not about the years of planning that went into making sure the invasion was a success .

Failure would have meant that the war would drag on and it would put  a strain  on the alliance with Stalin who was pushing for the creation of a second front in Europe .

Paul Oldfield (Historian and Battlefield guide) presents a talk on the planning and genesis of the  D Day landings .

  • How The Americans wanted to Invade Europe as early as the autumn of 1942 and why such a plan would have ended in disaster
  • How the landings depended upon success  in other theatres of war -the trans-atlantic and desert campaigns
  • What command structure needed to be created and how a major deception plan was created to confuse and mislead the enemy
